Best bear bud bday – the deuce

It’s my best bear bud’s birthday and we did it country-fair style.

Corn maze.

Pumpkin patch.

Caramel apples the size of my head.

Birthdays should happen more often.

Truth is I was actually taking Nicholas to Hawaii for his birthday, but I liked making him think that about all he was going to get from his bear bud for his birthday was a trip to the pumpkin patch.

Une scène noire dans l’après-midi

Late afternoon.

It is raining, as it always does.  A steady patter of water strikes the windows and walls of the workshop.

Within the workshop, there is a bear.  And his bud.  Both are silent.

The bear sits and watches with intense concentration, completely fixated on the task at hand.  With every stitch, an object begins to take form.

The bear continues to watch.  It is coming closer to completion.

It is a hat.  His hat.

Finally it is done.  He leans over and examines the finished work.

Then, with a nod of satisfaction, he dons the Fedora hat.

He is now ready.

Thanks for making me a hat Nicholas!  This dapper bear is ready to play detective in LA Noir!

The time I kind of got arrested

My best bear bud and I were acting like good old fashioned law abiding citizens when we got kind of arrested going across the Canada / US border today.

Well, to be precise, we got surrounded by cop cars and drug dogs, and then my best bear bud was removed from the car,  handcuffed and taken away from me to a detainment room where he was searched and interrogated.

I tried my best to save my bear bud and had my paws up ready to put up a fight, but I guess Nicholas thought we’d better not make a scene so I composed myself and instead grumpily surveyed our surroundings.

Glaring wasn’t forbidden so I continued to glare as hard as I could at the dogs who tried to sniff me and at the police officers who were searching the car for drugs, of which of course there were none.  There wasn’t even any chocolate in the car!  And here Nicholas thought having me leave my laser behind would make the border crossing smoother.

40 minutes into the ordeal they finally released us when they realized we weren’t smuggling drugs or guns.  After all we were being good law abiding citizens.

It’s was just a bud and his bear having a road trip.  Why on earth did they decide to stop us?  Jerks.  They delayed our ETA to my resumption of gaming.  At least Nicholas was amused.

This bear, however, was not.

The Grouse Grind

Yep, I did it.

My best bear bud also happened to climb it too.

As did Eric.

It was kind of like a party.

Nicholas and I completed the grind in 43:30.  Nicholas grumbled about the time.  I smacked him with my paw.  Let’s not be ridiculous.  I bragged about my time to Quatchi.

PoOn also hiked the grind.  She did it in 57 minutes which is her fastest morning time.

After the hike we went to see some bears.  Orphaned grizzly bears.  Not awesome spirit bears like myself.

Leaving out important details on long road trips

Yesterday Nicholas told me we were going on a road trip to San Francisco.

He neglected to inform me it was a trip to clear out a storage unit, and that car space would be questionable.

He also neglected to inform me of the possibility that the probability of riding in a styrofoam container would be higher than 0%.

This would not be the way I recommend anyone travel by car.

Least of all myself.

The Eugene Parade

This morning I went to a parade.

Nicholas explained that it was something to experience, so experience a parade we did.

No parade experience is complete without a portable folding chair so when Nicholas’s dad went for coffee I took his chair for myself.

He came back, so it was back to the backpack for me.

Visit a parade : check.

Humour my best bear bud by going to a parade : check.

Ok, it was kind of fun to go see a parade.

Hiking the Green Lakes

I like to think I’m an active well rounded bear, so while we were up in Bend Oregon visiting Nicholas’ sister, we went out to Green Lakes for a morning hike.

They wouldn’t let me take chocolate because they thought it’d melt, so I brought the next best thing. Matching green chips.  They were so awesome they nearly exploded out of its own packaging.

Of course we stopped for a family portrait at the lakes.

And then we hiked back.

And that was all.
