T’was the night before our trip

We’re going on a big trip to Europe! First to London, then to Italy. We’ll be gone for almost a month!
But first, priorities.

It’s my bud’s friend’s big 4-0 birthday. And my bud’s bud has great taste. He appreciates fine cocoa products.

Alas it’s already hot in Vegas, so my bud had to set up production in a bedroom where he could drop the room temperature sufficiently to make fine cocoa products.

I think they turned out pretty well!
Now time to pack for our trip!

When in Vegas

Apparently for Pokin, Vegas = buffets.

So instead of seeing all the shows we just went to the Bacchanal Buffet in Caesar’s Place in Vegas.

We were going back on the road again soon so we ended up eating at 10:45am.  It was a bit early for my best bear bud and I — especially since they started switching over to lunch foods already by 11:00, but I guess we got lunch for breakfast prices at least.  ($25.95 instead of $35.95)

Bacchanal Buffet is billed as the largest buffet in the world.  There are over 500+ dishes.  We got a quick tour.

I loaded my plate up right away with lots of desserts.  YEAH.

I guess it was too early for Nicholas so he couldn’t eat too much.

Pokin didn’t do too poorly, she filled her plates.

That was kind of fun.  I could have eaten more chocolate cake but I think it was way too much for my best bear bud and he felt a bit ill after.  Given that I weigh 186* and he only weighs 115* I weigh more and can out eat him too!

* if you ignore that one is grams and the other is pounds.  I’m dealing strictly with the numbers here.

The fallen Moai

On the drive back to the airport we made one last stop and pulled over at Aha Hanga.

I couldn’t resist.  These statues were resting the way I like to nap.

Actually though, by 1722, this is the condition in which all the moai on the island were found — face down.

Once seen as a sign of prosperity and an hommage to ancestors, the twilight years saw a thriving civilization descend into inter-tribal warfare, starvation and cannibalism.  The moai were now a poor reminder of those past times.  So down they went.  By the 1680s, the last of the chiefs and priests were overthrown by the military and the Birdman era began — with its corresponding craziness.

And with that, I am content to going back to my cocoa sipping chocolate eating gaming ways. Easter Island, it’s been a peach.  Or should I say chocolate-covered peach?  Time to go back home Nicholas!
